Edgefield Baptist Church        family...friends...community

Greetings...Thank you for taking the time to visit our website. One thing I want you to know is that I love being the pastor of this church! I hope what you read on this site gives you a sense of what our church is all about. We are imperfect people who gather to worship a perfect God. We want to share with everyone we can the truth of God's love for us, and the hope we have in Jesus Christ. "Family, Friends, Community" describes our church atmosphere and we would be honored to have you join us anytime we gather...you can find the times listed on this site. If you would like to know more about Edgefield or as a question about a relationship with Christ, please give us a call, or e-mail me at ebcpastorsteve@bellsouth.net. I am honored you read this - I hope to see you soon!

- Steve Saunders, senior pastor

This Month's Thought...

I love events.

I mean I really love events.

From the moment an event is announced to the time of my arrival the anticipation that builds within me is out of this world. If an invitation arrives in the mail and the event is something I can, and want, to attend, I begin to focus on that event right then and there. In some ways getting ready for an event consumes me.

If I were to construct a list of events that really draw me in it would have big events like a UT football game or a NASCAR race. The list would have concerts, conferences, and meetings on it. My list would also include birthday parties, family gatherings, and church events.

My list also includes worship. Yes worship. Worship at Edgefield to be exact. These days I get excited to come to our church and worship with the Edgefield family at 10 am on Sunday mornings. In fact, I cannot wait to get to the church.

Because I am preaching I must prepare a sermon. Because I want to worship God I must prepare me, my heart, my soul, and my spirit. These are related of course but the latter must happen for all of us, and all the time. We would never think to go to a football game without all we needed. We certainly do not go to birthday party without preparation such as a card and a gift. Do we show up for worship with the same readiness? We should.

Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe, for our "God is a consuming fire."  Hebrews 12:28-29

Prepare for worship this month. Read your Bible asking God to show you more of Him when you read. Pray asking God to ready you for worship, balancing what you get with what you give in worship. Participate in worship by singing, praying, and listening. Approach worship with a reverence and awe for God.

Worship is an event, prepare as if it is.

Blessings,

- Pastor Steve
