When I see people from the ministry the first question
they ask is, “How is your church doing?” and my reply is that we do well
thanks. I am thankful to be with a loving and caring family of faith. Trust
me, when I am around other pastors and I hear the things they go through, I
know how good it is for me and my family at Edgefield.
With that said and as your pastor, I must share
with you that while it is good that things are good and calm, I feel an
urgency that keeps coming to me in my prayer time. God is revealing to me some
things about our church that I want to share.
First, we need to continue our improvements of our
facilities. The work in the Fellowship Hall is remarkable and I am amazed at
what just a little paint and cleaning can do to transform a space. There are
new lights in the kitchen and it has really made a difference. These works are
by the hands of church members and are to be applauded as well as continued.
Another idea on the table is that we somehow, some
way, get more people involved in the hearing and voting on business matters.
Did you know that we have a monthly business meeting? I asked those in
business meeting last month to think of how we can add a business session at
some other point to get more of your voices heard. If you have an idea, I am
all ears. Remember my pledge – every idea is a good idea for at least five
minutes. No idea dies an instant death.
Worship in Fellowship Hall continues to be a
blessing to our church. Please attend during our winter retreat months to get
the feel of that worship experience. It really is unique because of the space.
Thank you for affirming that move again this year, God is blessing us.
God has also placed two words on my heart recently
– going and turning. I am not fully sure the full extent of either of these
yet but I do have some initial thoughts. Going – God has placed
opportunities in front of me that will allow those who feel called to go and
share their faith. As of today, there are three possibilities and check this
out; one is local, one is in another state, and one is international. Pray
with me to see what God is up to. The other word, turning, gets its own
paragraph, read on please.
As I pray about our church, the word that is more
and more consistently revealed is ‘turning’ in the sense of turning
the corner, getting ready to embark on a new path. I do not know more than
that as I write this and I do not know what it all means but I can share that
it seems to be a good thing when it comes to mind. Pray on this too.
Finally, and importantly, read your Bible so we
can be people of the Word together. The Word of God is so powerful and true.
Your spiritual life will take on new heights if you commit to reading the
Word. Why? Hebrews 4:12 says, For the word of God is living and effective and
sharper than any double-edged sword, penetrating as far as the separation of
soul and spirit, joints and marrow. It is able to judge the ideas and thoughts
of the heart.
Thanks for reading and blessings to you!
